"This painting was made from a photo I had taken outside of a bar called Doc Holidays which is a honky tonk dive in the East Village of New York. The bar looks out at Thompkins Square Park which is the park in the picture. It was taken at 5 a.m. as I was waiting for the bartender, who I had picked up while she was working, to finish her shift and come home with me. The scene felt serene and peaceful. The streets and city were quiet and there was just the right amount of illumination to create a beautiful ambience. I made a mental note it would be something I might be able to paint sometime soon."
